How to Clean a Projector Screen – Step-by-Step Process

Here is a disclaimer: Not all projector screens are composed of the same material. Before you try out this method, investigate the screen type. However, there is no proper cleaning method available in the market, but still, you can clean the dust and other sticking objects from the screen by the mentioned method.

Note: If your screen is customized, then ask the installer first before applying this method.

Step 1: Clean the Dust

The first step of cleaning the projector screen is easy. Use a cotton cloth to clean the non-sticking dust from the screen. For better results, you can also use air-compressed spray.

While using the air compressed air, keep the nozzle at least 2 inches away from the screen to avoid damage. If you are using cotton fabric, then clean the screen in up-down & right-left motion. Never clean the screen in a circular motion because Circular motion can damage the reflective surface materials.

Step 2: Remove the Sticking Substances

That’s possible that even after cleaning the screen with a cloth and air compressed spray, some particles remain stuck. To clean them, you need masking tape. Take the masking tape and rape it around your fingers and knuckles. Keep the sticking side of the tape outwards.

Now tap the masking tape gently on the screen. Try not to touch the screen, and if needed, then wear gloves first so that oil and dust present on your hand doesn’t touch the screen.

You can also use a foam brush instead of masking tape. Or you can also skip this step if you feel uncomfortable.

Step 3: Time for the Real Magic

Since we have clean all the dry dust and particles from the screen, now is time to clean the screen thoroughly by using a liquid cleaning solution.

Take the liquid dish soap and dissolve it in warm distilled water. Make a solution of 95% water and 5% liquid.

Note: Don’t pour the whole solution on the screen. Instead, use a cotton cloth and dip it in the solution.

After dipping the cloth in the liquid solution, squeeze it, and wipe the screen. Use the same wiping procedure as mentioned above. Don’t wipe in a circular motion. Wipe the screen in a right-left and up-down motion.

Step 4: Dry the Screen

Use dry cotton fabric to dry the screen. The same wiping procedure will also apply here. Check if either the projector screen is clean or not. If you still find some spots on the screen, then follow up to the next step. Otherwise, you can stop cleaning here.

Step 5: Remove the Remainders

It is the last step of the cleaning process. You need to be extra careful while doing this step. Take double sided-cotton buds and dip one side in the Isopropyl solution.

Tap the spot you want to clean and immediately dry it out with the other side of the cotton bud. If you leave the solution for too long on the screen, then it causes damage and a spot that can’t be removed.

Note: Don’t use the same cotton bud more than one time. Because once you dry the screen with the cotton bud, the side will also get damp. Use several cotton buds for cleaning.
